A room-by-room packing guide

Packing feels overwhelming when you look at the whole house at once. Take it one room at a time and it becomes a series of small, manageable jobs.

Start with the rooms you use least

Begin with storage areas, spare rooms and the garage. These hold things you will not need before the move, so you can pack them early without disrupting daily life.

Kitchen

  • Wrap plates vertically, like records, rather than stacking them flat
  • Use dish packs for glassware and stemware
  • Keep one box of daily-use items open until the last day

Bedrooms

  • Use wardrobe boxes so hanging clothes go straight in and straight out
  • Keep a labelled box of bedding so you can make up beds on night one

Living room

  • Photograph the back of your TV and electronics before unplugging
  • Wrap screens and mirrors in mirror cartons or plenty of padding

Bathroom

  • Seal any liquids in bags before boxing to avoid leaks
  • Pack a small essentials kit with toiletries for the first night

If packing is not how you want to spend your week, our professional packers can take all or part of it off your hands. Either way, label every box by room and unloading will be simple.
